As I've remarked from time to time, there aren't a whole lot of ponyfic reviewers around these days, so it's always a great thing when someone new decides to have a go. This time it's Chromentazol, who I've reviewed a couple of times myself. As the title of the blog (see link below) indicates, these reviews probably aren't going to be as frequent as most other current reviewers', but there's nothing wrong with that, especially if it helps prevent burnout.
Chromentazol's Monthly(?) Reviews #1
They've also ensured my eternal gratitude by reviewing one of my own stories in their very first edition! Click the link above to see what Chromentazol made of my short dialogue-only fic Take a Bow from earlier this year. I think it's a good and interesting review, and I very much hope Chromentazol enjoyed the experience and will want to keep doing these. If they do, I'll certainly be reading them!
Thank you for the signal boost!
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely an enjoyable experience, though not without its challenges, most of them related to general anxiety (the kind that comes when doing something for the very first time) and the fact English isn't my native language (so, y'know, making me have to triple check everything—especially when reading the stories themselves).
I'm definitely going to do more reviews, and I'm glad to see you'll be amongst my readers!
You are most welcome!
DeleteI'm glad you enjoyed the experience. Your English is extremely good, so no worries there, and the only reason I'd even guess you weren't a massive speaker was just the odd construction (eg "I fairly liked"), which was always easily understandable anyway.
I look forward to reading your next edition, whenever it appears! :)
Native, not massive! Thanks, autocorrect... :P
DeleteDangit—I knew "I fairly liked" sounded weird, but I couldn't figure out if it was proper English or not
Delete"I quite liked" is probably what you were looking for. In British English "quite" generally means "fairly" anyway, so that seems natural to me. :)
DeleteNeat to see. With abrony-mouse's efforts in this area having petered out fast, I won't get my hopes us that this'll be regular, but as an irregular contributor myself, that's no sin.
ReplyDeleteYou can tell they're new, the reviews foreground their structure and don't yet have the succinct pace and confidence that comes with familiarisation of points to discuss. But there's enthusiasm there; they'll improve with practice (and making the final takeaway clearer to read, I think).
