The MLP comics are coming thick and fast at the moment: Friends Forever #9 is already out, and the Annual appears later this month. But for now, it's back to IDW's main My Little Pony comic. This time we have a one-shot, written by Jeremy Whitley and drawn by Amy Mebberson, with Heather Breckel on colouring duties. As well as being a self-contained issue, this one's unusual in that it stars the ponies' pets. Does the risk pay off? After the break, we'll find out!

All right, then: it's time for My Little Pony! What do you mean, it's always time for My Little Pony? You're right, though... here we (well, I) present a review of the fourth in the Friends Forever series. This comic gives us the sibling team-up of Twilight and Shining Armor. Rob Anderson's only previous outing was the reasonable but not brilliant Spike micro, but both Amy Mebberson and Heather Breckel have lots of past Pony. Time we were reviewing a My Little Pony comic again, I think. This time around I wasn't able to get a physical copy for the review, owing to a meet being arranged for release date in a city with no comic shop. (Bad planning, I know. I will be buying a paper copy soon!) However, Comixology have ridden to the rescue before, and they once again have the new comic up for a pretty reasonable £2.49. I was only mildly impressed with issue #15, so let's go past the break and see whether its sequel did any better.

Time for a comics-related post! As it happens, the December and full-2013 sales figures are out, but a discussion of those will have to wait a little while. For now, just be reassured that My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic remained IDW's best seller last month. This month we have issue #15 of the main series to consider. It's written by Heather Nuhfer, who most will remember as the writer of the Nightmare Rarity arc. The interior art is drawn by Amy Mebberson, who's perhaps better known for her covers but did draw the Celestia micro. Past the break we go, everypony!

A week after it appeared in the US (and digitally) the latest in the My Little Pony micro-series has now reached British comic shops. As usual, I picked up my copy for £3.15 from Nostalgia & Comics in Birmingham. I plumped for Cover B, which features an adorable filly Twilight and baby Spike by Sabrina Alberghetti. (Is this the first A/B cover she's done?) The comic is drawn by established Pony artist Amy Mebberson, but we have a new writer joining the stable in the shape of Georgia Ball. Does it work? Amy Mebberson's Cover A is ridiculously awesome

Today saw the release of the final instalment of the current four-part arc in IDW's main My Little Pony comic. So off I toddled to Birmingham's Nostalgia & Comics (which had this Rainbow Dash shirt in the window!) and handed over the usual £3.15 for my own copy. The A, B and RI covers are all great this time around, but I chose Amy Mebberson's Cover A because of its ridiculously awesome cast of characters. The question was whether the story inside would match up. If you'll come with me past the jump, we'll see about that!

FlutterComic splurge!

Oh yes, indeed. This is the first comic since the very first one (in the main series) that I've bought more than two covers of — but I just couldn't decide! Amy Mebberson's Cover A is great because it includes so many animals from the show, including the flying squirrel, fruit bat and beaver. Tony Fleecs's Cover B is great because Fluttershy looks absurdly adorable with all those butterflies. And Sabrina Alberghetti's Cover RI is great because... well, come on. Filly Fluttershy and filly Derpy? How could I resist that? :D

One of these days, I'll work out IDW's release schedule for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. If it has one. As usual, I was only sure this comic was coming out earlier this week, so it was the usual trot to Nostalgia & Comics in Birmingham to hand over £3.15 in exchange for what you see above. Well, not just the cover, impressive as that is; I did get the comic inside, too! But on the subject of that cover, I've always found Stephanie Buscema's art to be rather cute, but this is definitely her most striking and — dare I say it — awesome design. Anyway, past the jump, if you would be so kind!

Meet Fluttershy, earth pony wannabe...

This week, we've been blessed with not one but two issues of My Little Pony comicy goodness. I'll review Rarity's Micro-series appearance in a couple of days; today, I'll concentrate on the original series. This month, we've reached issue #6 of the ongoing (as comic people apparently call it) and colourist Heather Breckel gets a well deserved cover credit -- which also means she gets a tag here! (I bet she's thrilled...) I bought my comic for £3.15 from Birmingham's excellent Nostalgia and Comics store. Past the jump, we'll take a look at how well it does.

Does Pinkie really need magic to do that sort of thing?

Easter approaches, and we find ourselves on the precipice threshold brink of a new story arc in IDW's massively successful My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comic. The creative team is of the "something old, something new" variety: Heather Nuhfer takes over writing duties and Amy Mebberson is now handling the artwork, but the colourist (Heather Breckel), letterererer (Neil Uyetake) and editor (Bobby Curnow) remain the same as they were in the last issue. Midtown Madness

Look what arrived in the post for me today! :D Well, I tell a lie: I've had the Derpy cover for a little while now, but the Time Turner one did indeed turn up this very morning. It was that rarest of things, a genuine eBay bargain: £6.95 including postage and packing. The seller wouldn't have got any money from me if they'd been charging the usual £20 or so, though, so in fact it was canny business. I just love that TARDIS-shaped street lamp.

I really love Amy Mebberson's style; in fact, she's the one artist I've seen who I like as much as Andy Price for drawing ponies — and she's the one signed by IDW to draw the second MLP:FiM story arc! That's pretty much guaranteed that I'll remain a regular buyer, even if the world does seem to be conspiring against getting the darn things out on time...
