Yes, this is indeed me asking that. I've read so little Mature-rated fic over the years that I'm sure there's plenty to be going on with. I do know about several of the M-rated longfic classics, such as Romance Reports and Salvation, and of course (one I've actually read!) Fallout: Equestria, so while I won't say no to more recommendations in that vein I think I'd be especially interested in short/mid-length fics. However, me being me, there are a few places I'd rather not go:
- Absolutely no foalcon or bestiality (by Equestrian standards if FiM, by our own standards if EqG)
- Incest is a near-red line... yes, I read Cadence in A Minor (PR 93), but I almost DNF'd it
- No necrophilia, no edgeplay, no scat/watersports
- I have no interest at all in "Twilight's bathroom is covered/spattered/etc with..." fics
- BDSM is okay unless it gets so harsh as to become edgeplay
- I dislike serious gore. FO:E is about my absolute limit there
- It's fine if a character is a murderer or something, if we don't see gore everywhere
- I'm okay with fics that have warning tags, even several.
- Fics can feature any combination of (adult) characters
- Added 17 Jan: I'm no great fan of futa
Now, this being Blogger rather than Fimfiction, you can link directly to M-rated stories if you want to. I'm also happy with recommendations along the lines of "[Name] writes pretty good [subject/fetish] stories which feature [whoever]". Although I won't necessarily reject a fic just because it has the [Porn] tag, I would certainly prefer actual stories. And finally? No, I'm not planning an M-rated edition of Ponyfic Roundup. Any I add will be few and scattered. Thanks!
Edited to add: If you don't want to comment publicly, PMs via Fimfiction will work too!
So it appears I have reviewed just shy of 500 M-rated non-porn stories. (And only about 50 with the Porn tag.) I have some opinions!
ReplyDeleteIf you read Fo:E, you have to read Project Horizons. At least the first three books of it. That's the first recommendation that came to mind.
Plomo o Plata, which I reviewed recently, is apparently M, but it's also #4 of a series, so YMMV.
I had lots of praise for Panatrophia, and while Anthropomorphic apparently has "gross stuff" happening to its characters, I don't think it's quite on the level of even FoE?
You can read my quote on Tummy Flutters to decide if that's for you. :)
I hope to preempt any and all incest fic recommendations with the only one anyone should read, the intensely uncomfortable Diamond Tiara Gets Filthy.
I should probably just provide links lest commentary character limit me out of the post. :B (Spoilers, it did not help!)

Wow, that took entirely too long. c_c;
That is really helpful; thank you! Google decided those comments were spam because of all the links, but I've marked them as fine now so they should show up okay.
DeleteI have already reviewed Ribbons and Lace. I liked it (four stars in PR 111) which is saying something considering it has almost heroic levels of LUS. I have apparently also read, though not reviewed, Twilight Sparkle Earns the Feature Box.
Project Horizons is just impossibly long, plus a certain thing that happens to a major character (yes, I do mean that) is perhaps over my line for unpleasantness. However, Duck and Cover! is on my RiL list already. :)
Amazingly, I have also read (and loved) an M-rated story you don't mention here: Taialin's Lust (five stars in PR 138), although that is the third instalment in a trilogy, neither of whose earlier parts are Mature.
Whew, I wondered why they didn't show up and was worried. :D
DeleteDepending on which thing happening to which character you're talking about, it could happen late enough in the story that you could duck out ahead of time after getting your fill? I won't push you though, I found plenty of other good sidefics to fill the gap anyway. :)
Character? Blackjack. Thing? Well... "nails" should give you the scene I mean. That scene got so infamous that even people like me who'd never read the fic heard about it.
Deleteyeahhh, that's kind of intrinsic to the first book, so I can't blame you <.< it was even a lot for me to take, like... a lot a lot
Deleteoh my god, why did I not recommend myself?
DeleteI love nothing more than using the Porn tag to explore and subvert common sex fic tropes. Also to be funny. :) That's gotta be worth a read, right?
Wise readers will look to A Piece of Meat (if not necessarily its prequel), Fadoodling for its blend of intimacy and intense if bizarre awkwardness, and Button Splash, because it's one of the funniest things I ever wrote. :)
Also, please disregard my earlier self-recommendation for DORP, that story isn't nearly as funny as I remember it being. ._.
Hello!
ReplyDeleteFirst, thank you very much for the recent review of "Sun in an Empty Room" - I'm looking forward to returning to write some more Zipp in future fics :)
Second, I only have one recommendation for you, but it's a fic I deeply enjoyed: All the Boys I've Loved Before, by Botched Lobotomy. It's a brilliant series of vignettes exploring a transmasc Fluttershy's love life. It's a solid, low-key M fic with great character moments.
I also want to put out there that I recently published an M-rated horror fic! It isn't without gore - and I haven't read FO:E, so I can't make a comparison - but what little there is isn't too terrible. If you're interested, it's here: The Head
You're very welcome, and I'll look forward to that. I think the next fic of yours I read will probably be Radiowaves, which was recommended to me a while back. I won't be so silly as to promise when, though!
DeleteThank you for the rec, too! I hadn't seen that fic before, and its low rating might have made me pass over it. (I'd like to think that wasn't because of the trans angle, but... yeah.)
As for The Head, in fact I already have that on my RiL list! It's new to the list and so a long way down, but it was there already. :)
Since you had some:
ReplyDeleteNice things to say about "Such Sweet Poison," I'll point you toward a somewhat similar trilogy of stories I did from 2012 through 2014 that gets a lot more physical when it comes to the character relationships. I think of it as my "Asexual Applejack/Futanari Fluttershy" series.
The first one is "Biology: A Romance," and my feeling is that, if you can make it through the first two chapters of that one, you'll make it through the rest of the series just fine. :)
Mike
Thanks! I must admit that futa doesn't appeal to me, but then neither did Such Sweet Poison's premise, so I won't rule out reading that.
DeleteWell, Twilight Sparkle Earns the Feature-Box is the first thing to spring to mind, but since you've already read it...
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how to do links here so please forgive the plaintext.
I would recommend:
In the Garden of Good and Evil by CiG. Oddly enough, though it is well-written, I would not recommend his Salvation, unless you're comfortable with high levels of implicit misogyny.
Amorosa by Admiral Biscuit.
HiE SoL An explicit and reasonable discussion with a pony prostitute. It's a sequel to a series, but you don't have to have read the rest to understand or appreciate it. Avoid the comments unless you're a fan of humorous incel outrage.
Drunk CelestAI Is In Your Bed by horizon. I honestly don't remember too much about this one, but it's on my Favorites shelf and just the title is hilarious, so...
The Reign of Queen Twilight Sparkle by Eakin.
A side-novel alternate ending to the Time Loop trilogy. Grim, but fascinating and incredibly well thought out.
Not much, but I've always found that 90% of the time, the Mature tag indicates the opposite.
I've already read Eakin's fic. I can't remember whether ice officially reviewed it, but "grim but fascination" is just how I felt about it too.
DeleteThanks for the other mentions. And point noted about CiG's story. Not a selling point to me, no.
Also, thanks to autocorrect for making me look completely illiterat in that response!
DeleteI hat autocorrect.
