In case anyone is wondering...
...yes, I have now seen Make Your Mark. I have a busy couple of days going on at the moment, but rest assured that I will be writing about the special here before long. Sneak preview? I liked it. Not without reservations, but I liked it.
Honestly, it exceeded my expectations. Yes, they took all the shortcuts with the 3D I expected, but they did a good job within those limitations. The theme of the story was fairly typical for the target audience, but it contained a fair bit of worldbuilding, and hinted at more adventurous episodes to come.
I'm glad! From my rather different perspective, I felt broadly the same way as you did. At least, the animation didn't bother me, and for me that's generally enough.

DeleteA couple of the aspects of the visuals did bother me, but it's the writing* that will make or break this series.
