Not the Text Review Roundup

Sorry, folks, but there just doesn't seem any point. Out of all the eligible reviewers who wrote about episode four, precisely two have reviews up of "Fluttershy Leans In" – and one of those is me! The other is Thrond (who didn't like it), but all the others seem to be using the Discovery Family schedule for their reviews. I suppose I could do that with TRR, but it would mean the posts becoming way out of step with my own viewing. Right now, I'm not sure how motivated I really am to do something like that.

  1. It seems crazy to me that Hasbro/DHX allows for this bizarre broadcast schedule in different countries. Maybe because it's a children's show, the powers that be don't really care when they air, but it's certainly annoying for the fans.

    1. I don't see how Hasbro can stop it, given that they can't officially recognise that millions of people watch on YouTube etc. It's not as if anything much has global release dates -- big-screen movies certainly don't. What's unusual with S7 is really just that it's not the US getting first dibs -- and it's a Canadian-produced show with Canadian VAs in any case. So yes, it's annoying, but it's just one of those things.

    2. I mean, Hasbro can't OFFICIALLY recognize it, sure, but that doesn't mean they can't be cognizant of it. I mean, GoT not-so-subtly promotes how it's the most-illegally-downloaded show around as a promotional ploy; surely Hasbro can figure out that fragmenting the (English-language) release will only serve to fragment a fanbase that, even if it's not their primary demographic, is large enough to make a financial difference when it comes to viewership and sales?

  2. If you'd have posted this on Thursday you could have said "This is not the Text Review Roundup you're looking for."

  3. Yeah, tbh that's why I'm probably not going to continue with TRR this season. It only works when things aren't so fragmented and most people review at the same time. Treehouse has thrown a huge spanner in the works this season. :P
