What long fic should I liveblog?

(NB: "You shouldn't. It's a horrible idea" is probably the best answer, but I'm going to ignore it.)

Over on Fimfiction, Soap Box is just starting a liveblog of Past Sins, and I quite like the idea of doing something similar. The idea would be to read maybe two chapters a week (dependent on chapter length) and then post my thoughts as I went along. This would take place on my Fimfiction blog rather than here, partly since Fimf's comments support is so much better than Blogger's.

Required criteria:
  • Not Mature-rated
  • Complete
  • Readable as a standalone fic
  • Not a story I've already read (see below)
Desirable criteria:
  • 100,000 words or longer
  • Not a crossover
  • Not an Equestria Girls fic
  • Published on Fimfiction

I'm persuadable on the "desirable" criteria in truly exceptional cases, though I wouldn't get your hopes up too far. The "required" ones are, well, required.

Long fics I've already read, and which are therefore ineligible for consideration: Anthropology, Austraeoh, Eljunbyro, Fallout: Equestria, Flash Fog, The Games We Play, Integration, It's a Dangerous Business, Going Out Your Door, The Life and Times of a Winning Pony, Mother of Invention, No, I Am Not A Brony, Get Me Outta Equestria!, Past Sins and Shipping and Handling. I'm currently reading The Luna Cypher, so that too is ineligible.

So... any suggestions, folks?

  1. I'm not really sure...would fan comics count as an idea for some of them?

    1. Can you find one that's over 100,000 words? ;)

    2. I could find two; there's "A Princesses' Tears" by Silver Quill himself: http://mlp-silver-quill.deviantart.com/gallery/48380363/A-Princess-Tears

      This one's great :D

And there's another one I glimpsed at called "The Night the Magic Died," but it's really not that good: http://arofatamahn.deviantart.com/gallery/38603698

      Hope they're over 100,000 words.

    3. Heh, not even close. 100,000 words is over a third of the length of "Past Sins". Those comics have a few thousand max. :P

    4. Oh, I see...sorry...

I really dunno what other fanfic to choose, except this one called "The Simple Life," but I can't; part of it has a mature rating on Deviantart.

      Sorry, I can't think of anything :(

    5. Don't worry about that. If this turns out to be a success, I'll probably do it again in the future anyway. :)

  2. Welp, the only thing that I have to my credit that meets that criteria is The Mailbox. It's an odd duck of a story written by six different authors. Each of us took one of the Mane Six:

    bats - Twilight Sparkle
    Jake R - Rainbow Dash
    AcrueBall/Steel Resolve - Rarity
    bookplayer - Applejack
    Churchy - Fluttershy
    xjuggernaughtx - Pinkie Pie

The idea here was that each of the Mane Six were leaving Ponyville for the summer and writing letters to keep in touch. Some of the stories that were created got a little out there.

It's wildly uneven, but for my part as Pinkie Pie, I tried to Pinkie Pie the living hell out of it. Some of the drama was making the story mopey, so I tried to insert some comedy relief to lighten things up. It's certainly not the best story on the site, but it was an interesting experiment.

    1. I think I came across that in a search ages ago and then promptly forgot about it. I'm leaning towards doing a better-known fic for the liveblog -- but this one sounds interesting, so on to the RiL list it goes. :)

    1. The first one's incomplete, but the other two can go on the list. Especially given their authors.

  4. You should try Sunset of Time, By Albinocorn. It is ~200k words long.
