Hype, hype, hype! S8 trailer out and S9 confirmed

Yes, I have seen the EqG special "Forgotten Friendship", and a review of that will be up in the near future. Back to FiM for today, though.

It's New York Toy Fair time, and as usual that means a flood of My Little Pony news from Hasbro. I'm not going to rehash everything that Equestria Daily has been posting, but as far as Friendship is Magic itself is concerned, there are two big things. The first is an official S8 trailer, and one that hasn't instantly been withdrawn like the last one was. ;) As the thumbnail isn't spoilery, it's embedded above – but the video itself is packed with spoilers, so be warned! They are not the same scenes we saw in that previous release; some stuff is brand new.

The second piece of news is that S9 has been confirmed! We don't know when it will be shown, how many episodes it will have, whether it will be the final season – or indeed anything much. Except the basic fact that there will be another season after the one we're about to have. So lots more Pony to come. Am I hyped for this? Yes. Might it be a total disaster? Yes. Am I still hyped, knowing that? Yes. I think that covers it!

Also, new "season 9" tag. Woo-hoo!

  1. Right now I'm trying to tell myself "The premiere is going to be stupid, but that doesn't mean the whole season will suck."

I just watch that trailer and see missed opportunities. Why go beyond Equestria when there are still places IN Equestria we haven't explored? Why are there yaks and griffons and hippogriffs and changelings -- all of which suck -- but no zebras or donkeys or Saddle Arabians? Where are the buffalo representatives?

And why are we going to just ignore seven seasons' worth of character building and have the mane six teach full time now? All I can assume is either that, or this won't be important. Like, it's going to be the premiere and finale events, judging by the episode title list, and then be forgotten in the rest of the season. And I don't know which is worse, DHX is really bad at doing things all the way. :|

    1. Well, there's a zebra. Zecora's in there. :P

    2. I'm starting to think she's the only zebra left alive at this point.

      ...Someone should write that.

    3. There was one in Rainbow Dash's chapter book, I think. Can't remember what happened to that one.

  2. "were back in business"!!!!
    YAY!

on to a serious comment, While I agree with Present Perfect (above) I also think (from what I see of the trailer) that this could be more like season 1, more grounded in the children friendly roots (not that MLP has gotten too far away from that, but we have certainly drifted form that TV Y rating)
Also While we could be worried that the ponies will all become teachers (and if they are I expect some fanfics about stressed out teaches and TA's) Hasbro / DHX are great at misdirection, remember the fear about the wedding, but we ended up with changelings

    1. I'm constantly surprised that it's still TV-Y after all these years, rather than having drifted out to TV-Y7 as EqG is.

I doubt I'll be writing about stressed teachers. I've had too many in my real life family to want to go there! :P

  3. I'm totally hyped by the trailer! I doubt we're going to get a dull school sitcom... that's what EQG is for! (Har-har... but seriously, Forgotten Friendship was pretty cool, if only because it had actual ponies in it.(And Pedestria confirmed for Equestria's toxic magic waste dump!))

I'm a bit confused by so many people saying this will be set "beyond Equestria" though. Yes, the STUDENTS will come from all over the world, but the school will undoubtedly be in Ponyville... or are the Mane 6 gonna abandon their lives and move out of the kingdom? I doubt it.

I loved Season 1, so if it's more like that, fine. But I think we're going to get a much richer season, and the students are the perfect way to do that.

People complain that, in many episodes, ponies have to re-learn lessons they "already did." (As if students don't backslide all the time!) Well now, we can have the Mane 6 as protectors and mentors, and have fun watching the new crop of critters make face-hoof worthy mistakes!

Honestly, I am really excited to see the new season!

    1. The trailer literally says "Go beyond Equestria". <.<

    2. So... you think the _school_ will be put in some foreign land? I don't see how that could possibly work.

    3. The Mane Six go on missions around the globe, kidnapping representatives of exotic peoples, then bring them back to Equestria at hornpoint and force them to learn about friendship, magic and the True Pony Way.

    4. I have to go with Logan's admittedly flippant idea. :V I mean, there's that one scene with Cutie Mark Crusader seaponies (yay), so I'm guessing there'll be a lot of "go to character-of-the-week's homeland for whatever reason".

Just no zebras or Saddle Arabians. :| No room in Equestria for those types.

    5. OMstarry-manedG! Logan, I would watch the crap out of that! Cultural Imperialism at it's cutest!

PP, that's a shame because a zebra foal would be ADORABLE! A Saddle Arabian foal would be... the size of a pony? Maybe have a nudity taboo? At least there would be lotsa room for "tall" jokes... although "How's the weather up there?" would work much better and in a more literal sense for pegasi.

    6. I'm speaking for the show creators here. :| They're the ones who make the rules, and the rules say 'no zebras'!

  4. I personally dont like friendship school, its just silly for me but the staff made silly concepts work more than often so i have to wait and see.

    1. Yeah, it's a wait and see job for me as well. I'm optimistic, though.
