I'm just curious...

...how many of you out there are old-gen fans, either because you were My Little Pony fans before 2010 or because you've learned about G1-G3 ponies since joining the G4 fandom? This isn't being asked for any sort of proper survey or study; as I say, I'm just curious.

  1. After my foray into previous gens, I have mad appreciation for G1. I even have a strange love-hate relationship with the others. Except Newborn Cuties. No one likes Newborn Cuties. >:|

    1. Yeah, sounds about right. Even at UK PonyCon, which is as inclusive as you can get, Newborn Cuties was basically just insulted by everyone. :D

  2. That was part of at least one of those "brony psychology" surveys. I will try to look for it later.

    1. I may have done something like that at some point too. I can't remember, though.

  3. I'm not really a fan of the older gens on their own, but I do have quite an appreciation for their existence. The fact Gen 4 'Friendship is Magic' can borrow characters and lore from previous gens gives it a special extra dimension. Similar to how modern Doctor Who takes creatures from episodes of the show that came out decades ago.

Newborn Cuties has that "so bad it's good" entertainment value. And if things hadn't gone THAT bad we might not have had the creative push to get G4.

    But generally, I'm just a G4 fan.

    1. The weird thing is, as I think Jem mentioned in her panel, that by the time Newborn Cuties was made (certainly the second one) FiM had already been greenlit. I can't imagine what it must have been like for the Hasbro top brass to be putting out NC when they knew something a zillion times better was coming soon.

  5. I've watched some of the earlier shows, mostly those involving the bad guys that reappear in G4, and I'm of the firm opinion that they are quite enjoyable through the filter of time and faulty memory.

Many of the concepts and general plots are actually pretty good, but the execution is so cringe-worthy that they're nearly unwatchable. I don't know how PP made it through them all without going mad. (Oh, wait... that may explain a few things.)

    1. I've watched both Newborn Cuties cartoons more than once, so I don't think I'm in any position to talk! :P

      Also, seaponies.
