This is going to suck. Right over the Christmas and New Year period, we're going to be told again and again all over the ponynet that My Little Pony: The Movie is out on digital platforms and that we should rush to buy it. Guess what, guys? It isn't and we can't.
Because, as ever, too many people online think the world consists of the US, or of North America at best.
Here's Amazon UK's page for the film. You'll note two things. One, that the UK price is ridiculous – £13.99 for HD, which is more than the physical Blu-ray. Two, that not only is it not available, but there isn't even a release date listed.
I'm trying to be supportive of Hasbro right now over the hacks stuff, but Celestia it's hard when they treat by far the film's most successful non-NA market like dirt. Going back to add the "rants" tag to this post now. :P
I'm sorry to hear you feel this way. Because I really couldn't care less when the movie's released over here. I've got far better things to do over Christmas and New Year than fret over a film that I've already seen in the cinema.
ReplyDelete"we're going to be told over and over again" - Only if you seek out places where that sort of thing is said. I don't follow EQD, Horse News or the like, and will probably be having a break from Twitter over the next week or so.
That seems a remarkably harsh-toned response. It does rather across as "Sheesh, don't you care about anything other than ponies?"
DeleteIn my life as a whole, I absolutely have higher priorities than the movie release, and plenty of them. But why would I be writing about those here? LY is an MLP blog, and one of the relatively few which is UK-centric. That is what it's for. If I started writing stuff like "Product X won't be available for months, but it's not important really, is it?" then I'd most certainly lose readers!
People don't read Louder Yay, specifically, to hear my thoughts on my family or the NHS or trains or crisps. I might sprinkle a few bits of such topics around the edges as seasoning, but on a blog set up and maintained for five years specifically to cover this subject, not only is MLP treated as the most important topic, MLP has to be treated as the most important topic.
Otherwise there would be no reason for this blog to exist. Which some might consider a blessing, but never mind. :P
I'm sorry that my comment came across as harsh. I merely wanted to express my surprise and concern that you felt so strongly about this.
DeleteIn hindsight, there have been other things frustrating me recently, and I let myself take those things out on you, which was wrong.
I appreciate this is an MLP blog, and I wouldn't expect you to fill it with loads of other things.
First of all, thank you. That is very much appreciated. I'm sorry you've been feeling unhappy, and I certainly hope that improves as much as possible as soon as possible.
DeleteI don't actually feel that strongly about this, except when I'm doing a rant in Pony Mode. Think of the Logan who writes Louder Yay as being a character, rather than as being a fully-rounded reflection of me. The "fully-rounded" bit will come when I've finished eating on Boxing Day! :9
I'm OK at the moment thanks. It's only very occasionally that I get down about things; "It's true some days are dark and lonely", and all that. I have inner demons to sort out.
DeleteThe concept of you kinda writing these as a character, I hadn't thought of. But I can definitely get behind that, and it makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the clarification.
Also, I seem to have inadvertently initiated a discussion about crisps below. :P
Okay, but now I legit want to hear your opinions on crisps. British snack foods are always interesting. :D
DeleteAlso I hope things get better for you, Oily. :C
"Coming soon: Ponyfic Roundup, British snack foods edition!"
DeleteYeah. Don't hold your breath. :P
This makes absolutely no sense. Honestly, it is an invitation, nay, a spur to piracy. A wierd thing about the NA release is that the HD and the SD versions are priced the same. Huh? Someone at Hasbro in charge of distribution is an idiot.
ReplyDeleteBTW, please DON'T blog about crisps! We can't get curry-flavored Pringles over here, and just thinking about them is pure torture!
We don't get the Blu-ray until 12 February, either. I'm still going to buy it, but it's not exactly ideal. :P
DeleteI'm not actually a big curry fan, so you're safe there. I do like Pringles, but I'll keep (most of) my thoughts about those to Twitter. :)
