UK PonyCon weekend and Saturday tickets sold out!

As announced by the con's communications lead Irish O'Conner on the official UK PonyCon forum yesterday (as well as on various social media), UK PonyCon 2018 weekend and Saturday tickets are now sold out. Sunday tickets are still available, but in restricted numbers and it's likely that these won't last that much longer either. Still, if you want to attend and haven't yet bought a ticket, this is your last chance! Since tickets are not transferable, you won't get one if you leave it any later. Yes, it is worth coming for the Sunday alone, so don't hang around if you feel you'd like to. Visit the official webstore to buy.

  1. I've been wondering, do you think conventions Will Keep going after the end of the show the next year (Little parenthesis, it's official now: https://mobile.twitter.com/mktoon/status/1016339286310809601?p=v ) or you think more cons Will appear even after the end of the Series Logan?

    1. And now it's unofficial again, as that tweet has been deleted! I did see it before it went, so I know what it said and who said it – but I suspect they weren't supposed to say it in public quite yet. So please don't name any names here. :)

But your question is interesting, so I'll answer it anyway. It's something I've wondered about for a long time, actually. UK PonyCon over here is multi-generation, so definitely could keep going, even after G4 ends. The question is whether there'll be enough people with the right skills who want to keep it going, given that the odds are it will become smaller. I'd be happy to go to a smaller con, but I don't know how many others would.

I think there'll always be a substantial number of bronies/G4 fans around. Lots of shows that ended many years ago still have fandoms, after all. A character arc like (eg) Twilight's will interest people for many years to come yet. We'll have to wait and see. :)

    2. There will definitely be interest in conventions after the show ends. They might get blended into more general gatherings, and BronyCon is slowly opening the door to that, but they've contractually committed to several more years, past when they could have reasonably expected the show to keep going. And just because the show ends doesn't mean Hasbro will stop marketing the merch. Even after G5 starts up, I wouldn't be surprised to see them still selling G4 stuff.

    3. BronyCon is a bit of a special case, but it'll be interesting to see what it looks like by the end of its contracted run. Over here, I'm not sure how much appetite there is for more general gatherings, as those already exist. Possibly our smaller fandom, which means smaller cons, makes them a bit more sustainable as exclusively Pony affairs. Just a thought.

I'm sure you're right about the merch. I was certainly still finding plenty of G3 merch around when I came into this fandom in 2012, and for a couple of years past that.

  2. That's pretty impressive. So looking forward to this after missing the last two.

    1. So the last one you made it to was 2015 in Leicester? UKPC has certainly grown a lot since then! I think there were about 40-50 vendor stalls in 2017, for example. Should be a great weekend. :)
