Another little movie merch titbit

I suppose this counts as a spoiler within the meaning of the Act. It's just a toy reveal, but it does have the movie branding. So...

EQD brings us news that Rainbow Dash has an airship. Now, it's bright yellow and looks like something from the Duplo range, but still. An airship. This one's in the Guardians of Harmony range and movie-branded. Walmart exclusive, which is a pain as Asda (their UK subsidiary) are useless for MLP stuff these days. We may have to wait quite a while for this one.

  1. LOL, with all this canon-twisting going on, I'm now wondering if the movie is going to be gloriously "whatever goes" or if it's just going to be a glorious trainwreck. Of course, airships have been established in-universe, and I can think of scenarios where the main cast might need one, but Rainbow? Of all ponies?

Part of me wonders how (and more to the point, why) Rainbow Dash would acquire and use an airship. Part of me remembers this is a money-making enterprise, not a creative arts project. Part of me wonders if this isn't a misunderstanding and it just won't show up in the movie at all. Part of me doesn't care because the movie is a suggestion at best, one that'll need much persuasion before I go see it. And part of me wonders whether yellow would really work on an airship, especially one meant for RD.

I mean, yellow? She's got some style or taste, hasn't she?

    1. I'd be at least semi-okay with "glorious trainwreck", actually. My real fear is that it will be dull and superficial thanks to squashing so many characters into 80 minutes or so. I'll definitely be going to see the film (though that's partly for social reasons) but I hope the company of friends isn't the only reason I enjoy it!

Mind you, alicorn Twilight has an airship (and what an airship) in iisaw's The Twilight Enigma. Granted that's not canon, and also granted there are other ponies on board, but it does work well.

Maybe it's Spitfire's. Or was in one of her brilliant fanfics. :D

  2. I'm going to go ahead and attribute this airship to that cat character. He'd need some sky mobility and looks like a rogue/pirate/rake of some kind.

    1. It would make a bit more sense than giving it to Rainbow, certainly.

  3. Buy our toys!!! Buy our toys!!! Buy our toys!!! *repeat them with techno music in the background...*

Why need an airship if you can fly. Why not use helicopters!?

    1. Because they don't have helicopters. I refuse to acknowledge the canonicity of that... thing in "Testing Testing 1, 2, 3". :P

    2. Pinkie has her flying machine from Griffon the Brush Off. It's basically a helicopter.

    3. Okay, Pinkie gets a pass – but only because she's Pinkie.
