Sounds of 2014, nos. 55 to 51

Off we go again! Today we finish with the bottom half of 2014's Equestrian Trot 100 chart. As a reminder, these are songs that were in the charts in 2014, not necessarily tracks that were released that year. As we've seen, some songs have considerable staying power! Here's your reminder of the criteria; a track needs to hit at least one of these to be featured here.

Rule 1: Still available in the same or (1b) similar form direct from the/an original artist.
Rule 2: Available from a third party, with reason to believe the artist is fine with this.
Rule 3: So famous that it would be plain silly to leave it out.
Rule 4: Being unlisted is not, on its own, grounds for exclusion.

On the skipping front, sadly this time our recent run of good fortune has come to an end. We have not one but two songs which don't meet any of the above requirements and so sadly have to be skipped. Let's hope for better luck next time! The three remaining tracks are:

54: PhonyBrony + Feather – I'll Show You My Loyalty

I don't think I've seen PhonyBrony's name in any of the "Sounds of..." series, even if this specific song has been pretty well known – enough so for a 4EB/PrinceW cover to emerge a couple of years ago. Accomplished vocalist Feather doubtless needs little introduction, given her double appearance last time! As the combination of title and cover art suggest, this is a Rainbow Dash song. It certainly has plenty of EDM-y poppy energy about it. PhonyBrony asks that downloads be made from this pony.fm link, which offers 320k MP3, FLAC and several other formats.

53: Aviators – Set Me Free

Hay, Logan, another Aviators track. Bet you're happy about that, aren't you? Well, yes! This track may not quite be among his very best, nor one of his best remembered – slightly surprising given it's a Luna song, about her later banishment, when she feels she has changed but is still trapped in the Moon. I like the driving rhythm and Aviators' trademark synths, as usual the lyrics are well worth listening to, but to me at least the percussion does sound just a little bit tinny, even when listened to in HQ. Talking of which, you can pick up this track for $1 on Aviators' Bandcamp.

52: Scraton ft. Nowacking – Vinylicious

As you'll note from that date, Scraton (stylised as SCRATON on their account) released this earlier – I believe it's from 2013 – but took it down from YouTube later for reasons I don't know, then later still restored it. It's that surprisingly rare-in-this-series genre, dubstep. Not necessarily to my taste, but perfectly on-brand for Vinyl Scratch. And seriously, do you even need me to tell you that Vinyl's voiced by Nowacking? Thought not. Note that there's one F-bomb in a spoken sample at 3:35; I'm not a great fan of songs that put one swear in just because, so this gets marked down just slightly for that. Whatever, you can pick it up for $1 on Scraton's Bandcamp.
