Sounds of 2012: Nos. 43 to 39

Since I don't want to do two "My Little Repeats" posts on successive days, I need to put something else up today. "Sounds of 2012" would seem to fit the bill nicely. We're getting well into the upper half of the Everfree Radio listeners' selections now, and there are a couple of fairly well-known songs featured in this post. A quick reminder of when I'll feature a song – Rule 1 is by far the most common:

Rule 1: Still available in the same or (1b) similar form direct from the artist
Rule 2: Available from a third party, with reason to believe the artist is fine with this
Rule 3: So famous that it would be plain silly to leave it out
Rule 4: Being unlisted is not, on its own, grounds for exclusion

43: Sim Gretina – Colgate Brushie Song (Inspector Brushie Remix)

At this rate I'm going to need a separate category just for Sim Gretina remixes! This one was inspired by a very simple Rina-Chan song, but the seemingly bizarre idea of mashing it up with the Inspector Gadget theme turns out to be inspired. Even if you're in the camp who's happy that Minuette's former name and assumed profession are mostly dead these days, this is still a cheerfully ridiculous track that's pure nostalgic fun to listen to. There's no HQ version, but I'm not sure it makes much difference here!

42: Bronyfied – My Little Metal Medley

No, I don't know why a 2011 song is in this chart. Possibly Bronyfied did a later remaster or something, but if so I can't find it. Anyway, this is pretty much what it sounds like, although it's very much melodic by metal standards – no screaming here, albeit largely because it's a pure instrumental. :P Even so, it's quite impressive to hear part of the "Find a Pet" song in metal form! There's a link to an MP3 download... but it's Dropbox, so as you'd expect it's long since died a death. A certain Living Tombstone (The) left an impressed comment in the, er, comments.

41: Bronyfied – Flower of the Season (ft. Aviators)

You'd think a collab between Bronyfied (again!) and Aviators would have endured, but I don't think I'd even heard of this song before now. Maybe its lack of fame is because it's about a side character, Roseluck. The lyrics, started by Bronyfied and completed by Aviators (who sings), are intended as a way of cheering up Rose, who is sad for some unknown reason. It's a fairly standard rock ballad, and I can't say I found it that memorable, but it's not bad. The download link is again Dropbox, and is again dead.

40: The Living Tombstone – Dubstep Dishwasher

Many people will have encountered The Living Tombstone's song as a part of the massively popular animation "Epic Wub Time", but we're concentrating on just the music here. Can you guess from the track name what genre this is? I don't know if there's a great deal to say about this, other than that it may have eventually, indirectly contributed to a certain living arrangement becoming canon in "Slice of Life". In all honesty, this is more fun as part of the longer animation than it is standing alone. There's a 320k MP3 download in the video description.

39: Replacer – Let Your Mane Down (d.notive cover)

I'm rarely going to object to a Replacer song appearing in the chart, and this one is no exception. The harder-edged original made it to no. 47 in the 2011 chart, but I definitely prefer this bouncier cover. As with the original, it's heavily inspired by "Sisterhooves Social" and Rarity's struggles to connect with Sweetie Belle. Replacer says that he made this to celebrate 1,000 YouTube subscribers. These days he's on almost 12 times that, though I'm a tad disappointed it's not more. Anyway, there's a 320k MP3 download link in the video description – and this one is Mediafire, so it actually works!
